In "A Girl Like Me", African American women and children discuss the internalized issues that society has shown has acceptable. It is clear, therefore, that “African American children learn about the significance of skin tone when and if they see people treated better or worse based upon having lighter or darker skin” (Stephens & Few 253)
Although this could be considered other "isms" such as racism or classism, it is a form of Colorism. When darker skin toned people are presented in the media as violent and/or guilty until proven innocent then it influences the opinions of viewers.
